Notes:
Engineer-to-order systems complement ERP systems in that ERP systems traditionally focus on the make-to-stock business. A large part of this is to manage the business of moving product from stock to customers, and balancing material procurement with this process. These are today commonly considered business processes and are largely independent of the products in the supply chain.
In the engineer to order business, the supply chain is very much dependent on the supplied product. Therefore an engineer-to-order solution must capture the product design knowledge. This supply chain process thus complements the more traditional processes that are common to both ship-to-order and engineer-to-order businesses.
